Super Smash Bros 3DS Demo and Thoughts

It is almost time for Super Smash Bros 3DS to be released in the US. There has been so much news on it lately, it’s hard to keep up! Two days before the Japanese release, there were live streams of the game being played. Rami watched the live stream to find out who the hidden characters were. We were a bit disappointed with the amount of character unlocked from playing the game. We thought the starting roster would be smaller and the rest of the new characters would be unlockables. Oh well, no big deal.

On Friday, Sept 12, there was a Nintendo Direct that would cover upcoming games as well as Super Smash Bros. We were super happy when they announced that Platinum members would get to play the Super Smash Bros demo early as well as 3 friends! Luckily, Rami made it to platinum so we awaited eagerly for the codes to arrive. It was announced at 1pm and we finally got the email sometime after 6pm. JDX got a code, and the other two we gave away.

We found out the next day, people were selling the demo codes on eBay. The price of the codes were way too much, might as well buy the game. The demo does not contain THAT much content and it is going to be up to the public in the upcoming week. If we did not have platinum status, we would have waited. We just think it’s insane to buy a demo.

In Super Smash Bros Brawl, we had characters we liked to play often. JDX mainly played Toon Link, Link, Ike, Marth...you get the point, sword characters. He also plays Jigglypuff for a good laugh. Rami mainly played Lucas and Pikachu. Terrible with most other characters.

On to the demo!

There is only the smash mode available in the demo, which can be used to battle CPU’s or other people locally. Opening the local multiplayer character roster, there are only 5 characters available, Link, Pikachu, Mario, Megaman, and Villager. There is no option to change the controls, which we would have liked.

No options. :[
The five characters for the demo and rest of starting roster.
The only mode available is 2 minute free for all matches, with the only stage currently available being the battlefield stage. When choosing the battlefield stage, you can either choose the normal version which will enable items to be used, or you can play in the omega version of battlefield which will turn it into its final destination variation with no items. We mostly played on the omega version to see how the skills for some of the characters changed.

Normal (left) and omega (right).
Villager won! We raised the difficultly every match until we hit 9.
Rami is just not doing so well.
In the end, Super Smash Bros looks like loads of fun, and we can't wait to get the full version when it gets released in October. Until then, we’ll be mastering using these characters for now.
